Justice Walkers - Sarala Emmanuel, Amara, Ponni Arasu

Batticaloa Justice Walk is a daily practice of peaceful resistance that began on 12 May 2022 in the war-torn town of Batticaloa during Sri Lanka’s mass Aragalaya protests against economic and political crisis. Batticaloa holds layered histories of colonialism, militarization, war, natural disasters, and long traditions of nonviolent protest. Each morning at 9 a.m., walkers move in single file with placards bearing demands, poetry, and visions of justice, creating a living, art-filled archive of resistance that endures.
